Backstage Ditches Postgres for Databricks Lakebase

Lakebase now offers a serverless PostgreSQL interface within Databricks, allowing Backstage to operate without awareness of the underlying changes. The integration involved updating configurations and addressing authentication challenges using OAuth JWTs. The integration transforms the database development lifecycle by enabling near-instant database branching through Lakebase's copy-on-write architecture, allowing developers to focus on testing changes rather than safety. Branching creates a pointer to existing data, making the operation instantaneous. Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR) allows for quick restoration of data, demonstrated by a recovery process that took less than four seconds. The goal is to integrate database branching into developer workflows seamlessly, making it automatic. This change could enhance developer productivity by allowing live data testing from the start, eliminating the need for mock objects, and resolving common issues related to staging environments. The traditional constraints of slow and costly database copies will become obsolete, prompting teams to reconsider how much time they spend on workarounds for now-nonexistent constraints.

How to Record Windows 11 Internal Audio with Audacity for Free

Windows 11 does not have a built-in option to record internal audio directly from PC speakers. The Stereo Mix feature, which allowed easy recording of audio output, has been phased out on many modern devices. Microsoft's Voice Recorder app only captures microphone audio. Tips for cleaner recordings include setting the project rate to 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz, disabling audio enhancements, and closing distracting applications. Common issues include no audio recorded, loopback devices not showing up, distorted sound, low volume, and microphone access denial, which can usually be resolved through settings adjustments or driver updates.

Stealthy Malware Campaign Uses Fake Windows Update Site To Infect PCs

A new malware campaign targets Windows users by using a fraudulent clone of a Microsoft website to steal sensitive information. Victims are directed to a typo-squatted web address that resembles an official site, where they are prompted to download a file named WindowsUpdate 1.0.0.msi. This file uses a legitimate open-source installer framework and incorporates Electron, JavaScript, and Python, making it difficult to detect; VirusTotal showed zero detections across 69 engines. The malware maintains persistence by modifying the Windows registry and placing a shortcut named Spotify.lnk in the startup folder. Currently, the campaign primarily targets French-speaking users, but similar tactics may spread to other regions.
