The Steam Machine faces disappointment due to RAM shortages and the lack of a definitive price or release date, raising concerns about it becoming vaporware. The original Steam controller did not succeed in saving the 2015 Steam Machine, but the success of the Steam Deck has created optimism for a new gamepad that could enhance couch gaming. Players are increasingly leaning towards hybrid setups, and the introduction of the new controller could encourage upgrades to the Steam Machine. The Steam Controller aims to improve the experience for full PC setups and foster interest in Valve's hardware ecosystem. Releasing the controller now could demonstrate Valve's commitment to quality hardware and potentially attract gamers from competitors like PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Valve announced the Steam Machine, set to release in early 2026, which will be powered by SteamOS and designed for living room integration. It aims to bridge the gap between PC gaming and consoles, boasting hardware specifications that rival current-generation consoles like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The Steam Machine will have a streamlined process for games to achieve the "Verified" badge, making it easier for developers to secure this status compared to the Steam Deck. The Steam Machine is expected to have a larger library of Verified games due to its enhanced capabilities. Additionally, the new Steam Controller will feature a puck accessory that serves as a wireless receiver and charger, designed to reduce Bluetooth interference.

Planet Centauri is an indie 2D sandbox game that took over a decade to develop and accumulated more than 130,000 wishlists before its 1.0 release. A bug in Steam caused the announcement email for the launch to not reach wishlist users. Valve featured Planet Centauri as one of Steam's Daily Deals on November 12 to help regain visibility, which resulted in over 5,000 copies sold in a single day. The developers, Permadeath, stated this was enough to support them for at least a year and allow them to finish their second game. Planet Centauri is currently available on Steam for .49/£6/€7, reflecting a 50% discount.

Valve is developing a game console called the Steam Machine, set to be released in early 2026. It is a compact gaming PC designed to fit into entertainment setups, resembling a 6-inch cube and running on SteamOS. The Steam Machine will feature a wireless controller and is claimed to have six times the performance of the Steam Deck while maintaining compatibility with its game library. Its dimensions are 152mm tall, 162.4mm deep, and 156mm wide. Pricing has not been disclosed, but Valve aims to keep it affordable within the entry-level PC market. Valve is also introducing a new Steam Controller that combines traditional gamepad features with advanced inputs and customization options. It includes drift-resistant joysticks and "Grip Sense" technology for enhanced gameplay. Additionally, Valve is developing a VR headset called the Steam Frame, which supports both flat-screen and VR gaming. It can stream games from a nearby PC and is designed to work with the Steam Machine for improved streaming quality. The estimated battery life for the Steam Frame is between one to four hours, depending on usage.
