Steam users can now check a game's compatibility with Steam Machine and SteamOS directly from the store page. This feature was introduced after the Steam Machine's June release. Players can click 'learn more' next to the Steam Deck compatibility rating for an overview of compatibility across Valve's hardware and software. The game Black Myth: Wukong has an 'unknown' compatibility status with the Steam Machine, while it runs successfully on SteamOS. Valve is investigating compatibility for titles like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Elden Ring Nightreign. Some games, like 007: First Light, can achieve a 'Verified' rating on the Steam Machine. Currently, the Steam store does not allow filtering by Steam Machine or SteamOS compatibility, but this feature is expected soon.

The recent updates in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) include the introduction of volumetric smoke grenades, which provide true 3D smoke cover, and a reimagined bomb mechanic that creates an explosive wave of destruction impacting the entire map post-detonation. Valve YouTuber Gabe Follower has showcased gameplay footage of the new bomb technology, which includes a shockwave effect. Additionally, there is a private testing feature for a console command that allows players to remotely detonate grenades by shooting them. Counter-Strike 2 remains the most popular title on Steam, while its predecessor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, has also seen a resurgence, attracting tens of thousands of players despite not being featured on the Steam store.

As of 4:33 PM PT, the "too many requests" error affecting Steam has subsided, allowing users to access the Steam store again, although server issues persist in Dubai. This downtime is unusual for a Thursday, as Valve typically schedules maintenance on Tuesdays. The error message displayed when accessing Steampowered.com indicates excessive requests. The situation may be related to the conclusion of the Summer Sale, leading to increased traffic. Many of Steam's services, such as seeing friends online and matchmaking, continue to function normally, with the primary issue being the accessibility of the Steam website.

The second installment of Steam Next Fest for 2026 is running until June 22 and features a total of 8,682 demos, nearly double the entire library of PlayStation 2 games. Approximately 1,700 of these demos incorporate AI technology, leading to concerns about the quality of some titles, often labeled as "shovelware." Various digital storefronts are struggling to maintain quality amidst the influx of AI-generated content, with Sony recently removing a publisher known for low-quality releases. The reaction to AI in game development has been mixed, with backlash against certain titles.
