The Gothic 1 Remake has been released using Unreal Engine 5, but PC players may experience screen tearing due to the VSync option being grayed out. To enable VSync, players should open the graphics tab, go to the “Latency optimization” section, toggle off the “Nvidia Streamline Reflex” option, and then return to the Display settings to access VSync. This adjustment can help reduce screen tearing and stuttering, especially during the opening cinematic. Gothic 1 Remake is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The Files app has introduced a feature in version 4.1.3 that allows users to calculate folder sizes on demand, which was not available in Windows 11's File Explorer. Users can toggle this option in Settings, and when disabled, a View size button appears in the Size column for easy access. The app now retains selection across different layouts, ensuring previously selected items remain highlighted. It also offers multiple methods for clearing tags from files, including options from the context menu, toolbar, and Command Palette. Additionally, the update features a refreshed OneDrive icon that reflects current branding, and several fixes have been implemented, including resolving issues with extracting tar archives and correcting display problems for BitLocker locked drives.

Security researcher Chaotic Eclipse has released a Windows BitLocker bypass tool named GreatXML, following a previously disclosed exploit targeting Microsoft Defender. The discovery was made accidentally and took four hours. A critical vulnerability exists for users who have used the Windows Defender Offline Scan feature, making them susceptible to the BitLocker bypass. The exploit involves copying an XML file and a recovery folder to the recovery partition and rebooting into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). If the Defender offline scan was not initiated, users must log in to start it or find a way to boot into WinRE in offline scan state. GreatXML is the second BitLocker bypass tool released by Chaotic Eclipse, following the earlier exploit known as YellowKey (CVE-2026-45585), which has been patched by Microsoft.

In the June 2026 Security Update for Windows 11 and Windows 10, Microsoft implemented a change that prevents custom folder icons and localized folder names from appearing if derived from an untrusted "desktop.ini" file. Users may initially perceive this as a bug, as folders may revert to default settings without user intervention. To maintain customizations, organizations should add trusted sources to the "Trusted Sites" list via Control Panel. Businesses can enable the "Allow the use of remote paths in file shortcut icons" policy through the Group Policy Editor, although this may reduce security. Users can also remove the Mark-of-the-Web tag from trusted "desktop.ini" files using PowerShell commands. This update reflects a broader trend of prioritizing security over customization in the operating system.

Apple has removed Russia’s state-backed Max messenger from its App Store, as confirmed by the app’s developers. The Max app, which lacks encryption, has been promoted by the Russian government, which has restricted access to popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, forcing civil servants and state agencies to use Max for communications. The app became unavailable for download on Apple’s platform on Wednesday night, and while current users can still access it, new downloads and updates are prohibited. Max, introduced in 2025 by VK, combines social media, messaging, government services, and banking options, and has been endorsed by President Putin. It is pre-installed on devices sold in Russia but not available in the European Union, with user data stored on Russian servers.

Microsoft has introduced pg_durable, a PostgreSQL extension that enables developers to execute durable workflows within the database, reducing the need for external orchestration systems. It simplifies workflow management by allowing developers to express long-running, fault-tolerant SQL functions directly in SQL, managing execution concerns like retries and recovery. Workflows are defined in SQL, with the extension handling retry states, progress tracking, and checkpointing. A pg_durable function operates as a graph of SQL steps that can resume from the last durable checkpoint after a failure. The extension preserves execution states within PostgreSQL tables, ensuring workflows can withstand crashes and restarts. It includes a domain-specific language (DSL) for scheduling and parallel execution. An example of a durable function is provided, demonstrating sequential and parallel execution using specific operators. pg_durable is particularly useful for vector embedding pipelines and scheduled maintenance tasks. Architecturally, it consists of a PostgreSQL extension and a background worker built on Rust libraries, without any external control plane. Durable execution allows long-running workflows to automatically resume from failure points, simplifying distributed system architecture.

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Experimental build 26300.8553, which includes customizable Start menus, enhanced search functionalities, and a refined Taskbar. A significant upgrade is the rebranding of the Modern Print Platform to Windows Ready Print, aimed at modernizing and securing the printing process. Microsoft is phasing out support for third-party printer drivers via Windows Update, transitioning to the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and the native Windows IPP printer driver. Starting July 2026, new printer installations on eligible devices will default to Windows Ready Print, though users can choose between Windows Ready Print and the traditional OEM process. This setting can be adjusted through the printer preferences in Settings and modified via Group Policy. Users can also enable Windows protected print mode to default to Windows Ready Print.
