Microsoft has expanded the features of its Xbox mobile app to allow users to purchase Xbox games, DLC, and sign up for Game Pass on both Android and iOS. Additionally, users can now stream games they own on their Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles without needing to install the software locally. Xbox remote play is also moving from the Xbox app to Microsoft's website to optimize streaming performance.

The January 2025 update for Play Games on PC has added a new game control remapping feature that allows you to play Android games on your PC with only a keyboard. The remapping tool is only available for supported games, and future updates will add more controls.

Microsoft is encouraging users to transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 before the end of support in October 2025. Key gaming features of Windows 11 include Auto HDR, DirectStorage, Game Bar Compact Mode, Dynamic Lighting, optimizations for windowed games, an HDR calibration app, advanced hybrid support, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 support, color filters for colorblind players, automatic super resolution for Arm Copilot+ PCs, and the Xbox app on Windows PC. Windows 11 has a 52.48% market share among Steam users as of November 2024, surpassing Windows 10 in mid-2024. Currently, Windows 10 holds a 61.82% market share while Windows 11 is at 34.94%. Gamers are adopting Windows 11 faster than the general user base.

Microsoft has updated the home screen of its Xbox PC app to improve user experience, making it easier to find new releases, sales, and events. The update includes the addition of 400 previously unavailable titles to the Xbox store. Microsoft has integrated PC games with Xbox functionalities into the app, featuring titles from developers like Kemco and Kairosoft, as well as games such as Shovel Knight Treasure Trove and Jackbox Party Pack. Enhancements for Xbox Game Pass subscribers include the ability to stream select games remotely, with Xbox Insiders now able to stream their personally owned games to Xbox Series X and Xbox One consoles. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in 28 supported countries can access this feature, which includes popular titles like Star Wars Outlaws and The Witcher 3, as well as indie games like Animal Well and Dredge. Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings can preview this streaming feature now, with broader capabilities expected to roll out in 2025.
