The update KB5051987 for Windows 11 24H2 aimed to enhance security and user experience but has led to numerous issues. Users have reported unresponsiveness in File Explorer, with the application freezing or failing to open. Some users experience a black desktop, and attempts at system restoration or reinstallation have not resolved the problems. Many users are unable to install the update due to persistent error messages, leading to an endless update loop. Clearing the software distribution folder may help, but patience is required. Camera functionality has also been affected, with systems failing to recognize webcams. Additional issues include performance drops during gaming, installation errors in Windows Sandbox, glitches in taskbar preview animations, and some users being unable to boot into Windows. Uninstalling the update is an option for those facing severe issues, but it leaves systems vulnerable until Microsoft addresses the problems.

System administrators are experiencing unexpected upgrades from Windows Server 2022 to Windows Server 2025, with reports on Reddit indicating that these upgrades occur without an option to revert. Microsoft mistakenly classified this upgrade as both an optional and a security update for Windows Server 2022. A discrepancy was found in the patching repository, where the GUID for the Windows Server 2025 upgrade did not match the usual entries for Windows 11. Microsoft confirmed that the KB number associated with this upgrade pertains to Windows 11, not Windows Server 2025. This upgrade is not officially supported for Windows Server, leaving administrators without a clear way to downgrade back to Windows Server 2022 unless they utilize third-party solutions for system restoration.

NeuShield has introduced a new feature for its Data Sentinel product that allows users to recover unbootable Windows systems directly from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). The One-Click Restore feature addresses common causes of system failures, such as software updates and application conflicts, enabling users to revert to a stable state and reduce concerns about data loss. This recovery can be initiated during a reboot, enhancing speed and reliability compared to traditional methods, and can be accessed automatically or manually via a bootable USB or DVD.
