Windows 10 support will end on October 14, 2025, with a deadline of January 15, 2025, for older versions to access Microsoft Teams. Microsoft is offering Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10 at a cost, with pricing set at £48.19 for the first year, £96.39 for the second year, and £192.78 for the third year. This option extends support until the end of 2028 but is primarily aimed at enterprise users, with details for average users to be announced later. Microsoft has announced that PCs running older versions of Windows 10 will soon be unable to access Microsoft Teams. Starting next month, users on outdated OS versions will receive notifications to upgrade, and those with incompatible systems will be blocked from using Teams. The deadline for this transition is January 15, 2025. Users of older Windows 11 and MacOS versions will also lose access unless they upgrade. Microsoft has provided a way to check system requirements. The end-of-support date for Windows 10 is scheduled for October 2025. Users can upgrade to Windows 11, purchase a new laptop with Windows 11, or opt for Extended Security Updates (ESUs), which will be available until 2028 at an estimated cost of around £50 per year for businesses.

Microsoft has notified Windows users that the new Teams client will require upgrades to newer operating systems to maintain support. Users on older versions of Windows 10 (prior to version 21H2) and macOS (11 or earlier) will see warning banners within the next two weeks, with Teams ceasing to function on these systems starting January 15, 2025. This move encourages users to upgrade, particularly targeting enterprise users, as support for Windows 10 version 21H2 ended three months ago. Microsoft is promoting Windows 11 for its security features and integration benefits, emphasizing the urgency for the approximately 70% of Windows users still on Windows 10 to transition before the end-of-life deadline approaches.
