Windows 11's File Explorer has been enhanced over the years but still lacks certain features found in third-party alternatives. The Explorer Tab Utility is a free program available on GitHub that adds functionalities to File Explorer, such as opening windows as tabs, duplicating tabs, navigating custom paths, and reopening closed tabs with the CTRL+SHIFT+T shortcut. The utility aims to inspire further improvements to File Explorer, which has had a dark mode for years but still struggles with incomplete UI elements. The latest update, version 2.0.0, includes major architectural changes like complete COM integration, improved thread safety, and better state management, along with new features such as smart tab switching, tab history, and enhanced hotkey systems. Technical improvements include native Windows integration, elimination of UI automation dependencies, and better handling of race conditions.

Microsoft has previously attempted to launch lighter versions of its Windows operating system, but these efforts have often been discontinued. A concept designer named AR4789 has created a video for the Windows 12 Lite concept, which emphasizes aesthetic changes rather than technical improvements. The concept features a bottom taskbar for applications and a separate floating taskbar for system icons and the Start menu, resembling the macOS Menu bar. It retains rounded corners for windows and reintroduces a tiled Start menu, which was removed in Windows 11. The Windows Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) is also envisioned to be revamped while keeping familiar elements. There has been no official announcement from Microsoft about Windows 12, but speculation suggests that the company may have been preparing for its release this year, although the focus has shifted to the rollout of Windows 11 24H2.

Mark Rubin, the executive producer of Ubisoft's XDefiant, stated that there are no plans to shut down the game after its fourth season. He mentioned ongoing discussions for Year 2 of XDefiant, focusing on technical improvements and content for upcoming seasons. Rubin acknowledged a decline in player numbers due to limited marketing efforts, which are intended to give the development team time to refine the game before launching broader marketing campaigns. This is the second time Ubisoft San Francisco has addressed rumors about the game's future.
