More than 100 students will participate in the largest Minecraft esports competition in Ontario at Humber Polytechnic on Saturday. Two teams from King’s Town School, the Pixelites and the TerrorBytes, will compete in the Ontario Scholastic Esports Association (OSEA) Minecraft Provincial Championship against 16 other teams. The competition is for students in Grades 5 to 8 and involves collaborative building challenges using Minecraft Education. The Pixelites include Oliver Armstrong, Ralph Bobrow, and Harlo Garwood, while the TerrorBytes consist of Kieran McCabe, Charlie Neary, and Jackson Geen. This year's qualifying task required teams to create an Olympic-themed parkour course. The event aims to connect gaming with curriculum-based learning and skills development. Teams will have 30 to 40 minutes to complete each of the four build challenges, with one scenario remaining a mystery. Medals will be awarded to top teams, but the focus is on skill development and confidence-building. The event will be livestreamed for families and school communities.

007 First Light requires a graphics card with at least 12GB of video memory for optimal performance, with 16GB recommended for higher resolutions. The game does not feature graphics presets and defaults to minimum settings in its pre-release build. Achieving a stable 60 fps at 4K resolution is challenging, with frame rates typically around 40-45 fps on lower settings. Upscaling is recommended for smoother gameplay, with GPUs like the RTX 5070 or Radeon 9070 maintaining 60-70 fps at higher quality settings. The game is compatible with the Steam Deck but runs at approximately 30 fps with significant stuttering. Optimal settings for the RTX 5070 and RTX 3060 Ti include specific configurations for transfer function, resolution scaling, texture quality, and other graphical settings to balance image quality and performance. Following these adjustments, the RTX 5070 can achieve an average of 63-70 fps, with frame generation potentially increasing frame rates but also introducing latency. Upscaling is essential for 4K gameplay unless using high-end hardware.

Conduit Crystals are essential for enhancing tools with the Feedback Resonator or Bioscanner upgrade in Subnautica 2. Players need five crystals for crafting, and they can be found primarily beneath the Alien Power Plant and on ledges near alien structures. Each crystal node resembles coral and requires the Sonic Resonator for harvesting. An additional crystal is located below the first, within the crater of the Angel Comb. Heading northeast from the Angel Comb and following the purple tube down the ravine leads to two more crystals on the right, near luminescent green pools. Players can also scan the Feedback Resonator at this location.

The Japan Coast Guard released a Minecraft map showcasing the submarine topography around Japan's coastline on May 12, coinciding with "Japan Coast Guard Day." The map is available for free download in Java and Bedrock formats and allows players to explore an artistically rendered version of Japan's underwater geography. Players start near Tokyo Bay and can encounter the Seven Islands of Izu and the Iwojima ridge, which includes active volcanoes. The map also features the Mariana Trench, the deepest oceanic trench, which the Japan Coast Guard first measured. The map can be accessed through the Japan Coast Guard's Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department website, and it includes a tool for looking up block coordinates. The initiative follows a similar project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2025, which created a Minecraft representation of the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel.

A modded Minecraft server often experiences a significant decline in player engagement, with many losing over 60% of active players within the first month due to sustainability challenges. Successful servers adopt a structured approach, starting with a focused modpack and gradually guiding players through early, mid, and late game stages. The technical infrastructure affects player retention, with consistent performance and uptime above 99% being crucial. Smaller servers with 20 to 50 players tend to have higher engagement rates. Community interaction is vital for server success, with shared goals enhancing player involvement. A staggered approach to content updates, introducing new mechanics every 2 to 3 weeks, helps maintain player interest without overwhelming them.
