Hundreds of Minecraft mods on GitHub are infested with hard-to-spot spyware

A sophisticated malware campaign known as the “Stargazers Ghost” network is targeting young gamers, particularly those playing Minecraft, to capture sensitive login information and personal data. This operation, based in a Russian-speaking region, uses a two-pronged approach: initially acquiring login credentials and then extracting more extensive personal information, including passwords and cryptocurrency details. The malware has infiltrated over 500 GitHub repositories, disguising itself within Minecraft Java installers to evade antivirus protections. GitHub, while monitoring for malicious content, faces challenges due to the volume of attacks. To enhance safety, parents are advised to vet GitHub pages, test mods on a “burner” account, and restrict access to official mods in the “Bedrock Edition” of the game.

Windows 11’s Snipping Tool now creates DIY animated GIFs

Microsoft has enhanced the Snipping Tool in Windows 11, allowing users to create animated GIFs directly from the application. This feature can be accessed using the Win + Shift + R shortcut and is currently available for Windows Insiders in the Dev and Canary channels. The Snipping Tool now includes a "Create GIF" option, enabling users to record a selected screen area and save the animation as a GIF or share it directly. The migration was executed in three phases: deploying the hypervisor and DataSync agent, secure data migration and validation, and production cutover with application deployment. Best practices adopted during the process included Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, comprehensive monitoring with DATADOG and CloudWatch, and enforcement of AWS Backup policies. The modernization resulted in benefits such as improved scalability and performance, flexibility and portability of applications, enhanced security and compliance, efficient data management, reduced operational overhead, and significant cost savings.

Microsoft broke DHCP for Windows Server last Patch Tuesday

Microsoft has acknowledged that the updates released on June 10 during Patch Tuesday may disrupt the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service on Windows Server versions 2025, 2022, 2019, and 2016. The DHCP Server service might intermittently stop responding after installing this security update, causing issues for network administrators as clients may be unable to renew their IP addresses. There is currently no viable workaround for affected users other than rolling back the patch, which is not ideal due to the critical security fixes included in the update. The impact of this issue varies among users, with some experiencing significant problems while others report no disruptions.
