Microsoft has addressed a bug in the Windows 11 testing channels that replaced the startup sound with that of Windows Vista. This issue first appeared in the Beta and Dev channels, then resurfaced in the Canary branch. A new patch for the Canary branch has restored the correct Windows 11 boot sound and fixed other bugs, including black desktop backgrounds and crashes in the Settings application. Key changes in the latest update include: - Restoration of the correct Windows 11 boot sound. - Improvements to the desktop experience, resolving unexpected black backgrounds. - Stability enhancements for the Settings application, particularly in the Power & Battery section. - Repositioning of the search functionality in the Settings menu for easier access. Additional fixes include resolving an audio issue after casting to a TV, addressing system crashes for some users after upgrading, and fixing display issues in the Group Policy Editor for certain languages. Known issues that remain include complications with Windows Hello PIN and biometrics for users transitioning to the Canary Channel and visual glitches during upgrades.

Microsoft is testing a new feature called the adaptive energy saver for Windows 11 laptops, currently in the Canary channel. This feature activates when the battery is low, but users can set the activation threshold. It operates intelligently at any time, optimizing CPU and GPU performance based on power state and system load, without changing screen brightness. The adaptive energy saver is designed for laptops only and will be opt-in for users who prefer to keep their current settings. There is no guarantee it will be included in the final release of Windows 11.

Microsoft's Windows Insider Program allows users to engage with upcoming Windows features and updates before their official release. Participants can choose from four testing channels: 1. Canary Channel: Most experimental, high risk, currently testing Windows 11 25H2. 2. Dev Channel: Medium risk, currently testing Windows 11 24H2. 3. Beta Channel: Low risk, currently testing Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2. 4. Release Preview Channel: Very low risk, currently testing Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 24H2. Switching to a lower channel requires a complete reinstallation of Windows. The program includes the Feedback Hub app for submitting issues and suggestions. Participants may face stability issues, especially in higher-risk channels, and their devices will send more telemetry data to Microsoft. Frequent updates are released, often on a weekly basis.
