Valve has rewired Counter-Strike 2’s bomb to make it more spectacular, but potentially less deadly

The recent updates in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) include the introduction of volumetric smoke grenades, which provide true 3D smoke cover, and a reimagined bomb mechanic that creates an explosive wave of destruction impacting the entire map post-detonation. Valve YouTuber Gabe Follower has showcased gameplay footage of the new bomb technology, which includes a shockwave effect. Additionally, there is a private testing feature for a console command that allows players to remotely detonate grenades by shooting them. Counter-Strike 2 remains the most popular title on Steam, while its predecessor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, has also seen a resurgence, attracting tens of thousands of players despite not being featured on the Steam store.

You can soon restore Windows 11 from scratch even if it can’t boot up

Microsoft is previewing a recovery tool called Cloud rebuild for Windows 11, which allows for a clean reinstallation of the operating system even if it fails to boot. This tool automatically downloads the latest updates and drivers, eliminating the need for manual installations after recovery. Unlike the existing "Reset this PC" feature, Cloud rebuild does not retain personal files, settings, or applications, requiring users to restore these independently. To use Cloud rebuild, users need the latest Windows 11 insider build (Preview Build 26300.8772 or higher) and must follow specific steps in the Windows Recovery Environment. The timeline for broader availability of Cloud rebuild is uncertain, depending on ongoing testing and feedback. Other recovery options in Windows 11 include recovery drives, reset functions, Quick Machine Recovery, and a testing feature called Point-in-Time restore.

YouTube is giving creators more tools to tackle AI deepfakes

YouTube has launched a likeness detection tool to prevent unauthorized use of creators' images and videos, initially tested with prominent figures and now available to all eligible members of the YouTube Partner Program. The platform is also introducing Ask Studio, an AI-driven chatbot for creators to engage with analytics using natural language. Additionally, YouTube is expanding its auto-dubbing capabilities and testing advanced lip-syncing technology for a more natural viewing experience. An updated A/B testing feature will allow creators to compare different titles and thumbnails to optimize content engagement.

Microsoft is finally giving us a handy network diagnostics tool, but not in the way you want

Windows 11 is introducing a new feature that allows users to check internet speeds directly from the network menu with a "Perform speed test" button. This feature, found in the latest Dev and Beta builds, directs users to a speed testing service via Bing. Currently, users cannot select alternative speed testing services. The speed test feature is part of a broader update that includes enhancements like mobile settings revamp and migration of functionalities from the Control Panel to the Settings page.
