At Ignite 2024, Microsoft announced enhanced support for Windows applications on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S devices, allowing users to access Microsoft’s suite of tools without additional software. Users can create multiple virtual windows for multitasking, such as switching between Microsoft Teams and spreadsheets. Previously, users accessed Windows apps via Air Link, Remote Desktop in Horizon Workrooms, or third-party software. The new integration allows streaming from a Windows 11 PC or virtual Windows Cloud PC, enabling quick access to Windows applications in an XR environment. This functionality includes creating multiple virtual monitors or a single large monitor while maintaining visibility of physical surroundings. The experience is supported by a program called “Volumetric Apps.” Microsoft has discontinued its “Windows Mixed Reality” platform but continues to support XR innovators. Microsoft also announced the end of software support for HoloLens 2 in 2027 and hinted at a new deal with Samsung for OLED displays for a future mixed-reality headset.

The Android Spynote malware disguises itself as a legitimate antivirus application called "Avast Mobile Security" to exploit vulnerabilities in Android systems. It requests permissions associated with antivirus apps, bypasses user restrictions, and excludes itself from battery optimization settings. Spynote simulates user gestures and displays misleading system update notifications to maintain its presence and hinder detection. Its primary target is cryptocurrency accounts, aiming to extract private keys and balance information for assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether. The malware captures user credentials, stores them on the device's SD card, and employs obfuscation and evasion techniques to complicate detection efforts. It can detect virtual environments to evade analysis and monitors system settings to resist uninstallation attempts. Spynote is distributed through phishing sites that mimic the legitimate Avast download page, hosting malicious APKs named Avastavv.apk.

Microsoft has introduced a suite of tools, including GitHub Copilot for Azure, aimed at enhancing software development through AI. The tools are designed to reduce cognitive load on developers, who lose an average of 23 minutes per context switch between tools. A new role, the "AI engineer," is emerging as organizations integrate AI into applications. Microsoft’s tools, such as AI App Templates and GitHub Copilot, provide support for managing cloud resources and deploying applications within familiar coding environments. The rollout of these tools begins during GitHub Universe, with implications for businesses as they choose platforms that may lock them into specific ecosystems. Microsoft’s integration of GitHub Copilot with Azure positions it competitively against Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, with 95% of Fortune 500 companies already using Azure.

A fraudulent Android application posing as "WalletConnect" has stolen over 0,000 from approximately 150 users. The app, which initially appeared as "Mestox Calculator" in March, has undergone several name changes, including "WalletConnect - Crypto Wallet." It was found to have generated fake five-star reviews while also receiving reports of it being a scam. Although removed from the Google Play Store, users are advised to delete it immediately. The app functions as a web browser leading to a calculator site, and if certain criteria are met, users are redirected to a malicious site. This site is suspected of harboring malware. The underlying malware, known as MS Drainer, targets crypto wallets and has previously drained over million through phishing ads. WalletConnect, the legitimate platform, has warned users about fake apps since 2021 and clarifies that it does not have a standalone app.

Telegram, launched in 2013 by brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov, began as a messaging app and later integrated with the TON blockchain, aiming to transform digital transactions. The TON blockchain's development started with a whitepaper in 2018, and Telegram raised approximately .7 billion through a private sale of its native Gram token. In October 2019, the SEC filed a complaint against Telegram for conducting an unregistered securities offering, leading to a court ruling in March 2020 that halted the distribution of Gram tokens. Telegram subsequently abandoned the project in May 2020 but supported the independent development of TON, which was rebranded as The Open Network. In September 2023, Telegram integrated the TON Space wallet and introduced a revenue-sharing system in Toncoin. By May 27, 2024, the total value locked on TON surpassed billion. Telegram has become a hub for the crypto community, facilitating discussions and collaborations. It launched an in-app browser and a mini app store, with popular mini-apps like Notcoin and Hamster Kombat attracting millions of users. Telegram has raised billion through bond issues since 2021 and is exploring a potential IPO by 2025.

The TON blockchain project, with ties to Telegram Messenger, has seen a surge in value and popularity this year, with its token breaking into the top 10 by market capitalization. Despite previous regulatory issues, TON's performance has rekindled hopes that Telegram may evolve into a "super-app" incorporating social interactions, gaming, and financial tools. The project is focusing on payments and remittance, with enhanced security measures such as new KYC and AML checks being enforced.
