Google is enhancing the customization capabilities of its Pixel phones, particularly regarding app icons. The current "Themed icons" feature only works well with monochromatic icons, leading to mismatched visuals for many popular apps. To improve this, Google is reportedly developing new AI-powered options for icon customization, which may allow users to create custom icon themes independently of app developers. The new options discovered in the Android Canary build include: - Default: Keeps app icons unchanged. - Minimal: Displays monochromatic versions of app icons. - AI icon: Utilizes AI to generate a custom icon style automatically. - Create: Empowers users to design their own custom icon styles. Additionally, Google is working on allowing users to customize icon shapes. The timeline for these features is uncertain, but they may be part of a broader theme support initiative. Third-party Android launchers that support custom icon packs are available for users seeking immediate personalization options.

Android is introducing a new feature that allows users to enable a dark theme in applications that do not have native support for it, as part of the second Android Canary build. This update includes two modes under Settings > Display & touch > Dark theme: Standard mode, which applies the dark theme to compatible applications, and Expanded mode, which automatically applies the dark theme to a wider range of apps. The Expanded dark mode functions similarly to the “override force-dark” toggle in Developer Options but is more effective across various applications. Users may experience visual inconsistencies in some apps and can revert to Standard mode if needed. The feature has been anticipated since its initial discovery over a year ago, and while it is live in the Canary build, its rollout to Beta or Stable channels is uncertain, with hopes for its debut in the upcoming second quarterly release of Android 16 in December.

The Steam Deck, a handheld gaming PC by Valve that usually runs on a Linux-based system, has been successfully modified to run Windows 7 natively. This achievement has intrigued tech enthusiasts, although the integrated graphics of the Steam Deck lack the necessary drivers for Windows 7, which only work with Windows 10 and 11. Users like Bob Pony have previously installed Windows 8.1 on the device in 2022. Both Windows 7 and 8.1 lack official support from Microsoft, making their installation on the Steam Deck inadvisable. Despite the possibility of running Windows 11, many users prefer to stick with SteamOS, which has a dedicated following.
