Windows 11 brings back taskbar positioning and resizing, but longtime users will notice key differences

Microsoft has introduced enhancements to the Taskbar in Windows 11 with the latest preview build (26300.8493) from the Experimental channel for version 25H2. Users can now reposition the Taskbar to any edge of the screen—top, bottom, left, or right. The Taskbar can also be resized, allowing users to reduce its height and button size without needing a system restart. The option to change the Taskbar position is available under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar, and resizing options are found in the same section. However, the implementation lacks the intuitive drag-and-drop functionality present in Windows 10, requiring users to navigate through settings for adjustments. Additionally, when the Taskbar is vertical, the year is shown in an abbreviated format, and seconds are omitted from the time display. The auto-hide feature has some issues, and the tablet-optimized Taskbar is limited to the bottom position.

The interface will adapt to the Taskbar's position, with the Start menu and Search opening downward when docked at the top. In a vertical layout, the year will be abbreviated, and seconds will not be displayed. Users can ungroup app labels using the "Never combine" option when the Taskbar is on the left or right. Nothing to declare at border control except a Windows 7 certificate error

Google fixes one of the Clock app’s most confusing redesigns

Sound the alarm: Google Clock is now getting an Expressive overhaul

The Google Clock app has been updated to version 8.1, featuring visual enhancements aligned with the Material 3 Expressive design philosophy. Key updates include distinct backgrounds for active alarms, a revamped alarm setup screen for personalizing alarms, and an improved interface for snoozing or stopping alarms with clearly defined buttons. The stopwatch feature now has larger buttons for better usability. Although the redesigned timer section was not officially included, it can be unlocked, showcasing a more prominent font for time display and a streamlined layout that allows for multiple timers to be viewed simultaneously.

Windows 10 KB5060533 cumulative update released with 7 changes, fixes

Microsoft has released the KB5060533 cumulative update for Windows 10 22H2 and 21H2, which includes security patches addressing seven zero-day vulnerabilities. The update reintroduces seconds to the time display in the Calendar flyout, enhances the Rich Calendar feature, and adds descriptive text for the Weather button. It fixes rendering issues with GB18030 characters and resolves a problem with the Windows Account Sync Consent system in the European Economic Area. The update also addresses a known issue causing Hyper-V virtual machines to freeze or restart unexpectedly. A current issue involves blurry NOTO fonts at 96 DPI in Chromium-based browsers, with a workaround of adjusting display scaling to 125% or 150%. After installation, Windows 10 22H2 will be upgraded to build 19045.5965 and Windows 10 21H2 to build 19044.5965. Users can manually download the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
