LabubaRAT malware infiltrates Windows systems while posing as NVIDIA software

LabubaRAT is a newly identified Rust-based remote access tool (RAT) that disguises itself as NVIDIA software to facilitate operations on Windows systems. It establishes a reusable foothold for hands-on activity and can profile the host system, identify security tools, execute commands, transfer files, capture screenshots, and proxy network traffic. LabubaRAT retrieves its configuration at launch via command-line arguments or environment variables, allowing operators to specify parameters like the command-and-control server and API key at runtime. It maintains local state in a SQLite database and supports communication through HTTPS polling, Microsoft Edge WebView2, and DNS tunneling. The malware includes capabilities for command execution, file handling, and establishing persistence through a Windows Run registry key. The entry point for the attack is an executable named nvidia-sysruntime.exe, which masquerades as NVIDIA’s container runtime toolkit. LabubaRAT conducts thorough profiling of the host, checking for installed browsers and security products, and gathers information on the system's specifications. Blackpoint Cyber has shared indicators of compromise to help detect LabubaRAT activity.

We explain why Cloud Rebuild is one of Windows 11’s most important new features, and how it lets you recover your PC without a USB drive or complicated steps

Microsoft has introduced a new recovery feature for Windows 11 called Cloud rebuild, currently in preview mode. This feature allows users to restore their systems by downloading the Windows 11 image and necessary device drivers directly from Windows Update, eliminating the need for USB installation media or custom recovery images. OneDrive remains unaffected during the recovery process, enabling users to restore their files after signing back in. For organizations, devices managed via Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune can automatically re-enroll and restore settings post-rebuild. However, Cloud rebuild requires compatible hardware, a healthy Windows Recovery Environment, and internet connectivity. Currently, it can only be initiated from the Windows Recovery Environment or an elevated Command Prompt, with remote deployment not yet supported. The feature aims to simplify recovery processes and reduce reliance on USB drives, although it is not intended to replace existing recovery tools.

Microsoft Warns of GigaWiper Backdoor Built to Destroy Windows PCs

Microsoft has unveiled a destructive Windows backdoor named GigaWiper, which allows operators remote control over compromised systems to execute irreversible damage. GigaWiper originated from cyberattacks in October 2025 and is a composite of code from at least three malware families. It maintains its presence through a scheduled task disguised as “OneDrive Update,” executing at startup and every minute. GigaWiper can obliterate partition information, overwrite physical drives, and restart systems. It also mimics ransomware by encrypting files with the .candy extension, using randomly generated keys that are not stored, making recovery impossible. The malware has connections to the Crucio ransomware and resembles FlockWiper, with rewritten code in Go. GigaWiper features 20 command codes for various functions, including executing PowerShell instructions, managing processes, capturing screenshots, and remote access similar to VNC. It can remain on a system for surveillance until its destructive functions are activated. Microsoft Defender includes detection capabilities for GigaWiper, and users are advised to enable tamper protection and monitor for suspicious activities.

This open-source app fixed my notification chaos when Android couldn’t

Megan Ellis shared her experience using the app DoNotNotify, which helped her manage and reduce the number of notifications on her smartphone. She found that many apps, including Pokémon Go and Temu, sent numerous vague notifications that were difficult to filter effectively. Despite Android's notification channels, she often had to disable notifications entirely for certain apps. Microsoft extending Windows 10 support to 2027 raises a bigger issue: Windows 11 still isn’t winning over the majority of users (including our readers)

Initially, Microsoft planned to provide only one additional year of updates through its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, which will now continue until October 14, 2026. Critics, including advocacy groups, express concerns that this extension is a temporary fix rather than a sustainable solution, fearing it may lead to the premature retirement of up to 400 million PCs. Users have suggested alternative operating systems and a dual-support model for Windows 10 and Windows 11. The rising hardware prices and demands of AI technologies complicate the transition to Windows 11 for many users.
