Despite the MMO genre thriving with updates and returning titles like City of Heroes, they require significant time investments, making them less appealing to gamers already engaged in other experiences. The scoring system for the list was updated to prioritize Freshness, which evaluates a game's uniqueness, leading to challenges for MMOs that often follow traditional formulas. As a result, many MMOs received low Freshness scores, contributing to their absence from the list.

Steam’s WW2 grand strategy champion is expanding Japan, China, and the Philippines in new DLC

Paradox Interactive is celebrating a decade of Hearts of Iron 4, which attracts over 50,000 daily players and ranks among the top titles on Steam. In November, they will launch the second installment of their 'expansion pass' bundles, featuring a new DLC titled No Compromise, No Surrender, focusing on Japan, China, and the Philippines. Japan will have gameplay centered on dominating the Pacific, while China offers two paths: a Communist focus tree or a Nationalist focus tree. The Philippines will face challenges defending against invaders and can explore alternate-history scenarios. Expansion Pass 2 will also include three additional DLCs: Warships of the Pacific, Thunder at our Gates, and Peace for our Time, with the first releasing in early 2026.
