Identity Check on Android tipped to simplify its verification if your watch is close

Recent findings indicate that the Android 16 framework will enhance the Identity Check feature, integrating it with the Pixel Watch 3 and 4. This update will allow users to authenticate using a PIN, password, or pattern instead of solely relying on biometric sign-ins. Currently, accessing sensitive information requires biometric authentication, which can be cumbersome. Google is also working to extend Identity Check to more devices, including those from OnePlus. The latest beta version of Android 16 suggests a partnership with the Pixel Watch, indicating that Identity Check will work with it. Users currently must use biometric verification outside of "Trusted Places," but the update will allow for alternative authentication methods when a compatible Pixel Watch is nearby. The feature has been observed on a OnePlus 13 running the Android 16 beta. The rollout of Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 introduced various enhancements, including an expanded dark theme and additional developer-focused APIs.

Google could soon make it easier to manage Trusted places for Extend Unlock (APK teardown)

Google is enhancing the Trusted places functionality within the Extend Unlock feature for Android devices, allowing users to keep their devices unlocked for up to four hours in designated safe locations. An upcoming update from Google Play Services v24.37.31 beta will introduce a new toggle to easily activate and deactivate the Trusted places feature without deleting saved locations. Additionally, a new user interface will include a location picker for more intuitive setup of trusted places. These features are still in development.

Google beta tests better ‘Trust’ between your device in certain places

The latest beta version of the Google app has revealed plans to enhance the "Trusted Places" feature, making it easier for users to manage and access within Settings > Location > Trusted Places. This feature allows devices to remain unlocked in designated locations for security and convenience. Speculation suggests that the update may also integrate "Extend Unlock" settings. Many functionalities are still in development with no timeline for release, but enhancements are expected to coincide with or follow the launch of Android 15. The update aims to provide a more integrated approach to personal security settings and may complement other features like "Private Spaces" for discreet app storage.
