It is set in a flooded, surreal version of 1920s Arkham and follows the character Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer facing Lovecraftian creatures. The game shifts from the detective-centric gameplay of its predecessor to focus on combat, exploration, resource management, and horror. Players will navigate a world filled with supernatural threats while engaging in survival elements.

Frogwares has announced a delay for The Sinking City 2, now set for a 2026 release instead of the initially planned 2025. The delay is attributed to challenges in game development due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the complexities of transitioning into the survival horror genre. The studio has faced power outages and threats from military actions, impacting their operations. Lead designer Alexander Gresko noted that moving into a new genre requires different design thinking, which has slowed development. While a specific release date is not confirmed, the studio aims for the first half of 2026 and plans to provide gameplay updates in the coming months, including new screenshots.
