In early 2025, the survival game Prologue: Go Wayback! was released, prompting discussions about the potential inclusion of wildlife to enhance immersion. Brendan Greene, the game's creator, acknowledged the technical feasibility of adding animals but highlighted the complexities of developing realistic AI for them. He indicated that if animals were introduced, players would need means to defend against them. Greene expressed a desire to focus on creating a more complete world with features like paths and power lines, rather than immediate wildlife additions. He also mentioned the potential for underground areas as a future DLC feature, aiming to enrich the game's atmosphere. Since its early access launch, Prologue has received updates, including new features and modes, with plans for three DLCs to introduce new story elements. Future updates may include multiplayer functionality, particularly in the third DLC, which Greene noted is highly requested. He emphasized the need for a more structured environment to transition out of Early Access, focusing on visual and optimization improvements.

A new Android malware named Albiriox has emerged, marketed as malware-as-a-service (MaaS). It features a hard-coded list of over 400 applications, including banking and cryptocurrency platforms, and is distributed through social engineering tactics using dropper applications. Initially advertised in late September 2025, it became a full MaaS offering by October, with Russian-speaking threat actors behind its development. Albiriox allows remote control of compromised devices via an unencrypted TCP socket connection and Virtual Network Computing (VNC), enabling attackers to extract sensitive information and perform overlay attacks for credential theft. One campaign targeted victims in Austria using German-language lures and counterfeit Google Play Store listings. Albiriox also utilizes Android's accessibility services to bypass security measures and employs a novel distribution strategy involving a counterfeit website that collects phone numbers. Additionally, another Android MaaS tool, RadzaRat, was introduced, masquerading as a file management utility while offering extensive surveillance and remote control capabilities. RadzaRat can log keystrokes and maintain persistence through specific permissions, highlighting a trend in the availability of sophisticated cybercrime tools.

A writer from MakeUseOf uninstalled all third-party antivirus programs from his Windows PC and found that the system performed better and appeared more secure with Microsoft’s built-in Windows Defender. The experiment highlighted Defender's effectiveness, showing fewer false positives, improved performance, and no noticeable decline in protection. Independent tests ranked Defender highly in real-world protection, and it achieved perfect scores in recent AV-TEST evaluations. The removal of third-party antivirus software led to a significant decrease in CPU and RAM usage, with idle consumption dropping from 15-20% to under 5%. Despite 121 million Americans still using third-party tools, there is growing consideration for Defender due to its free and efficient nature. While Defender excels in many areas, experts caution that it may not fully protect against zero-day vulnerabilities, and layered defenses are still recommended. The antivirus market may face disruption as integrated protection becomes more common, and user feedback indicates a preference for free alternatives that match or exceed the performance of paid solutions.
