Residents and visitors in Morong, Rizal, and Mambajao, Camiguin Island can now make emergency calls through messaging apps and social media platforms as part of a modernization initiative for emergency response systems. Mambajao activated its local 911 emergency hotline on February 27, becoming the first next-generation 911-enabled command center in Northern Mindanao, reducing response times to three to seven minutes. The Next Generation Advanced (NGA) 911 Philippines launched the NEXiS Message platform, allowing emergency calls via traditional voice methods, text messages, video calls, and popular applications like Facebook Messenger. This system consolidates incoming messages into a single platform, improving efficiency and response times while ensuring the security of shared information through encryption. NEXiS Message integrates with legacy and modern communication technologies and facilitates inter-agency collaboration. NGA 911 Philippines aims to expand next-generation 911 technology to more communities in the country and has received certification from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).

Windows Explorer struggles with file transfer speeds, capping around 3GBps, while SSD technology can reach up to 15GBps. Alternatives like XCOPY and FastCopy are recommended for better performance. XCOPY is a command-line utility that can significantly streamline file operations, offering various command switches such as /E (copies directories and subdirectories), /J (utilizes unbuffered I/O), /Q (suppresses file name display), and /I (assumes destination is a directory). FastCopy is a user-friendly tool that integrates into Explorer's context menus and often exceeds XCOPY's speeds, achieving nearly 9GBps in testing. XCOPY outperforms Windows Explorer by two to three times, while FastCopy achieves speeds up to 3.5 times that of Explorer.

Google is enhancing its Meet app for Android by simplifying the process of adding participants to calls. Users will soon be able to invite contacts by entering their email addresses or phone numbers, similar to the web version. The latest version of Google Meet includes an “Add others” button that opens a contacts page for inviting new participants. The ongoing call minimizes to a picture-in-picture view, and invited participants receive a standard incoming call notification. If they decline or do not answer, the label changes to “No answer,” and a button may allow existing participants to leave a video message together.

Files are collections of data stored in a single container, often identified by their extensions. In Minecraft, data can be represented using wool blocks, where each block corresponds to a specific hex digit, allowing for the storage of bytes. A mapping was created to associate hex digits with wool colors, enabling data encoding and decoding within the game. An encoder script generates an "mcfunction" file for efficient block placement, while a decoder reads the wool matrix from the game world using the Amulet library. The process involves defining coordinates and dimensions for the wool matrix, and successful decoding reveals the original encoded message. This project demonstrates the versatility of data representation, though it is not intended for practical use.

Megan Ellis explored Canva's new photo editing tool, comparing it to her preferred app, Snapseed. In a poll, 60% of users favored generative AI tools in photo editors, while 20% valued desktop and mobile availability and sliders for adjusting contrast and saturation. Ellis highlighted Canva's automatic background selection and removal feature, which Snapseed lacks, as a significant advantage. She noted that while Canva offers various image adjustments, it does not have advanced features like color curve adjustments but includes a brush editor for selective fine-tuning. However, she identified usability issues with the mobile app, including bugs and unnecessary steps in the editing process. Ultimately, she plans to use Canva for PC editing while continuing to rely on Snapseed for mobile photo editing.

Microsoft is adjusting its Edge browser experience for users in the European Economic Area (EEA) due to the Digital Markets Act. Edge will no longer prompt users to set it as their default browser incessantly; instead, it will only request this when users open Edge directly. This change was implemented with version 137.0.3296.52 at the end of May. Additionally, web searches conducted via the Windows search box will open in the user's chosen default browser rather than Edge. These enhancements are rolling out throughout June in the EEA. Windows users in the EEA will also soon have the option to uninstall the Microsoft Store, expected to be available in 2025, while applications installed via the store will continue to receive updates. Users outside the EEA, particularly in the United States, will not see similar changes and will continue to experience aggressive promotion of Edge.
