Microsoft Paint’s AI features for Windows 11 out in more regions, including Image Creator

Microsoft is expanding the accessibility of its MS Paint application on Windows 11, introducing an update that enhances the Paint Creator mode for users outside the United States. This update includes the "Image Creator" button, which uses Bing's AI capabilities to generate images, now available to a broader audience. Users need a Microsoft 365 subscription and Copilot Pro to access the Paint Image Creator, which operates on OpenAI’s DALL-E technology. The process involves entering a text description, selecting a style, and generating three image variants. Users must have a Microsoft account to track usage and a Microsoft 365 subscription to utilize the Paint Image Creator with an increased limit on AI credits. The Paint Creator operates on an “AI Credits” system, providing 60 credits monthly for image generation. Additionally, Microsoft is rolling out the Generative Erase feature, allowing users to remove objects from images using AI.

Older Nest cameras are getting the Google Home app treatment

Google has launched a public preview of the Home app that supports Nest Cam IQ models from 2017, consolidating all Nest cameras released since 2015 into a single platform. The transition from the Nest app to the Home app allows users to manage Nest cameras in one location, providing features like video history and camera settings. Advanced functionalities include quick access to live streams, automation with smart lights, and viewing camera feeds on devices like the Pixel Watch 3 or Google TV Streamer. The rollout began in late 2023, with users able to join the Public Preview program through the Home app or home.google.com. Users can revert their Nest Cam IQ cameras back to the Nest app, but the Nest Hub Max cannot be returned once moved to the Home app. The Supersight feature from the Nest Cam IQ is not yet available in the Home app, and Google plans to integrate more features from the Nest app in the future.

Blender and other Windows apps are now available for Snapdragon X Windows PCs

Qualcomm showcased its Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for smartphones and highlighted its Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips for Windows 11 PCs at its annual developer summit. The company announced that various content creation applications will natively support its chips for Windows 11 devices, known as Copilot+ PCs. Notable applications include Blender, which has a new version available for Snapdragon X-based Windows PCs, and Qualcomm has joined The Blender Foundation. Additionally, Qualcomm introduced a free NPU-based plug-in for Blender that simulates rendering on the NPU using a neural network. Other applications set to offer native versions for Snapdragon X-based Windows PCs include CaptureOne, a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo, and Moises. Qualcomm has not announced plans for a next-generation Snapdragon X chip.
