A cybersecurity report released on May 22, 2026, identifies a counterfeit Android application posing as the official app of the Cockroach Janta Party as a significant malware threat. The malicious app, known as Cockroach.Janta.Party, functions as a Remote Access Trojan (RAT) and can infiltrate Android devices, steal sensitive information, intercept communications, and control infected smartphones. The genuine Cockroach Janta Party has no affiliation with this app and is a victim of brand impersonation. The app is distributed through WhatsApp, Telegram, and misleading websites, particularly a rogue domain, cockroachjantaparty[.]org. It targets Android devices running versions 8.0 to 14 and requests elevated permissions, including access to camera, SMS, call logs, and contacts, while misusing the Android Accessibility Service to read on-screen content and grant itself additional permissions. The app contains multiple malicious modules for data exfiltration and uses a Command and Control infrastructure based on the Telegram Bot API. Users are advised to uninstall the app, disable Accessibility permissions, reset banking credentials, enable two-factor authentication, and conduct a full mobile security scan. The legitimate Cockroach Janta Party is encouraged to issue a formal clarification regarding the impersonation.

Microsoft has alerted users that Secure Boot certificates will begin to expire in June, affecting most Windows devices. Users must update these certificates to avoid disruptions, as failing to install the latest Windows update could prevent devices from booting securely. A "one-time restart" will be required after the update to load new certificates. If the update is not installed by June 1, users may see a red stop icon in the Windows Security app. The update issued on May 12 was modified on May 15 to warn that it might fail to install. Microsoft indicates that most users will need to restart their PCs, although this may revert the update. The latest updates will expand the number of devices eligible for new Secure Boot certificates, but users are uncertain about how many PCs will be affected due to a phased rollout approach.

Meta has officially discontinued the Facebook Messenger desktop application for Mac and Windows. Users are encouraged to transition to the web-based Messenger.com and the main Facebook website. Notifications will inform users of the app's shutdown, providing a 60-day window before access is blocked. The Messenger app for Mac is being deprecated due to its inability to compete with business-oriented alternatives like Zoom and its lack of essential features such as screen sharing. Meta's focus is shifting towards merging Messenger functionalities back into the Facebook app. Despite the app's discontinuation, core features like encrypted messaging and media sharing will continue to be available on the web version.

Microsoft has a little-known Emergency Restart method for Windows 11, first shared by Reddit user '-Steets-' in 2022. To use it, press CTRL + ALT + DEL and hold the CTRL key while clicking the power button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. A message will appear warning that any unsaved data will be lost if the user clicks "OK" to proceed with the restart. This method serves as an alternative to a hard reset, allowing users to reboot their system without using the physical power button, which is particularly useful for laptop users. The Command Prompt also offers a restart option by typing "shutdown /r."

Microsoft is encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11 as the end-of-life date for Windows 10 approaches in October 2025. Many users are upgrading to Windows 11 despite their hardware not meeting the necessary specifications. Microsoft is now providing guidance for users who may wish to revert to Windows 10 if they encounter issues with Windows 11. The company has updated its support page to warn users that if their PC does not meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11, a watermark will be displayed. The updated disclaimer states that installing Windows 11 on incompatible hardware is not recommended, may lead to compatibility issues, and will result in the PC no longer being supported or eligible for updates. Damages due to lack of compatibility are not covered under the manufacturer warranty.
