Google Messages may soon solve your dark viewfinder struggles

Google is introducing a feature called Low Light Boost for its messaging platform's in-app camera preview, aimed at improving visibility in dim lighting. This feature brightens the viewfinder in real-time, allowing users to frame their shots better before taking a photo. Low Light Boost adjusts brightness based on surrounding light conditions and operates instantly, unlike traditional Night Mode. There are two methods for implementing Low Light Boost: 1. Low-Light Boost AE Mode, a hardware-level auto-exposure mode available on devices running Android 15 or later, specifically on Pixel 10 devices. 2. Google Low Light Boost, a software-based solution (HDRNet) for devices that do not support AE mode, enhancing brightness through post-processing techniques. The latest beta version of Google Messages, v20260501, includes code hints for the integration of Low Light Boost, although it is not yet fully operational. Microsoft is finally turning off the MSN feed and ads in Windows 11 Widgets by default

Microsoft has modified the default behavior of the Widgets feature in Windows 11, confirming that the MSN feed will no longer be displayed by default when users hover over the Widgets icon. This change is being gradually rolled out through the Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26300.8346. The updated Widgets experience includes several modifications: - The Widgets board will no longer open on hover; users must click the Widgets icon to access it. - Taskbar badging for breaking news and alerts will be turned off by default. - Animated taskbar alerts will only appear after user interaction with the Widgets board. - Upon first launching the Widgets board, users will see core widgets like weather and calendar instead of the MSN news feed. Users can manually customize their Widgets experience by disabling the "Open Widgets board on hover" option, turning off the MSN feed, or completely removing Widgets from Windows 11. Additionally, a redesign of the MSN feed is planned, featuring rounded corners to distinguish it from the Widgets. Microsoft aims to create a calmer operating system by reducing distractions and excessive notifications.

Windows 11 KB5083631 update released with 34 changes and fixes

Microsoft has released the KB5083631 optional cumulative update for Windows 11, featuring 34 enhancements aimed at improving user experience and system performance. CISA, Microsoft warn of active exploitation of Windows Shell vulnerability (CVE-2026-32202)

Attackers are exploiting CVE-2026-32202, a zero-click vulnerability in Windows Shell, allowing authentication of victims' systems without user interaction. This vulnerability stems from an incomplete patch for CVE-2026-21510 and has been used by the APT28 group with weaponized LNK files to bypass Windows security. Although Microsoft addressed these vulnerabilities in February 2026, the risk remains as opening a folder with a malicious LNK file can still connect victims' machines to the attacker's server, initiating an NTLM authentication handshake that exposes the victim’s Net-NTLMv2 hash. This affects various versions of Windows 10, 11, and Windows Server. Microsoft released a patch for CVE-2026-32202 on April 14, 2026, but did not label it as actively exploited until more than two weeks later, leaving security teams unaware of its urgency. Organizations are advised to apply the patch and consider blocking outbound SMB traffic to mitigate risks.

Google’s ‘Pixel Glow’ might have several lights as laptop animation surfaces [Video]

“Pixel Glow” is a forthcoming feature for future Pixel phones that will use subtle light and color on the back of the device to notify users of significant notifications while the phone is face down. It will be compatible with Gemini and will notify users of calls from favorite contacts. The Pixel Diagnostics app includes a “Color LED Check” to test the functionality of the LEDs, which will illuminate in red, green, and blue hues. New Android spyware Morpheus linked to Italian surveillance firm

Morpheus is a new spyware identified by the nonprofit organization Osservatorio Nessuno, which spreads through counterfeit Android applications that appear as legitimate updates. Attackers use SMS messages to direct victims to a fraudulent website mimicking an Internet Service Provider (ISP). The spyware installs a dropper app that deploys a concealed payload, which disguises itself as legitimate system components and manipulates users into granting dangerous permissions, including Accessibility access. Once granted, Morpheus initiates a Permission Workflow that creates a fake update overlay, disabling the touchscreen to prevent user interaction. It ensures persistence by restarting after device reboots and can request device administrator privileges. The spyware exploits overlay windows and Accessibility features to gain control of the device and bypass security measures, including disabling antivirus solutions without requiring root access. Analysis suggests Morpheus has Italian origins, with connections to an Italian firm, IPS Intelligence, known for lawful interception technologies. The spyware is capable of invasive actions such as recording audio and video, linking to WhatsApp, and compromising device security. The report highlights a network of dubious companies and shared contacts linked to the spyware's distribution.

‘Unlimited Attack Vectors’—All Windows Versions At Risk From New Flaw

Microsoft is facing a significant security vulnerability in its Windows operating system known as PhantomRPC, which allows for privilege escalation.
