Amazon has begun blocking several streaming applications on its Fire TV platform that promote unauthorized access to DRM-protected content, including Blink Streamz, Flix Vision, Live NetTV, and Ocean Streamz. Users attempting to open or sideload these apps receive a warning message indicating potential risks to device functionality and personal data, with the option to Keep the app grayed out. Although the Fire TV does not automatically delete these applications, the uncertainty about their future functionality is frustrating for users. Reports suggest that some blocked apps may harbor malware, with Flix Vision specifically exploiting device resources. Amazon has not publicly detailed the reasons for blocking these apps. Analysts have criticized Amazon for allowing piracy to proliferate, and Sky has accused the company of failing to curb illegal streaming activities, claiming that over half of the Fire TV devices sold in the UK are illegal jailbroken units.

Google is developing a new security feature for Android 16 that will block changes to sensitive settings during phone calls to protect users from phone scams. This feature will prevent users from enabling sideloading permissions and granting accessibility access while on a call. A warning message will be displayed if users attempt to make such changes, informing them that these actions are prohibited during calls. The sideloading permission is disabled by default, but users can enable it through settings, except for those with Advanced Protection Mode activated. These security features are expected to be included in the public release of Android 16 later this year.

A recent increase in scareware attacks is targeting mobile users, aiming to trick them into downloading malicious antivirus applications. These attacks use alarming notifications to exploit users' fears about device security. Analysts from Kaspersky Lab note that scareware often employs social engineering techniques to create urgency and fear, masquerading as legitimate software. Victims may encounter a range of consequences, from ineffective programs to dangerous malware that can encrypt data or steal financial information. Scareware messages typically warn users of detected viruses and the risks of not acting quickly. Malicious applications often use JavaScript or HTML to generate fake alerts. Users are advised to install authentic antivirus software from reputable sources, keep their devices updated, and be cautious with unexpected pop-ups.

File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) is a tool for administrators to manage file storage on Windows servers. It allows for quota management, file type blocking, and space utilization reporting. FSRM must be installed on all servers where File Dynamics will manage quotas, including the Engine host. To install FSRM on a Windows server, follow these steps: 1. Open Server Manager, select Add Roles and Features, and proceed with a role-based installation. 2. Choose the target server and navigate to File and Storage Services to select File Server Resource Manager. 3. Optionally, install additional features like .NET Framework 4.7. 4. Click Install and verify successful installation through Server Manager. To configure quotas, navigate to Quota Management in FSRM, create a quota for a specific folder, and set notification thresholds. For file screening, create file groups to block or allow specific file types, and set up file screen templates. Additional features like Storage Reports can be configured to generate reports on file usage by scheduling report tasks and specifying parameters. The initial step to install a file server in Windows Server is to install the File Server role from Server Manager and configure the shared folder properties.
