Google will discontinue its legacy Weather app for smartwatches running Wear OS 6 and newer versions. Users are encouraged to explore third-party weather applications or use default weather services from their watch brands. The built-in Weather app will not be available for new installations, but users with devices running Wear OS 5 or older can still access it through the Play Store. The Weather app will be removed from the Play Store for third-party smartwatches, but users who installed it before upgrading to Wear OS 6 can continue to use it. Pixel Watch users will automatically receive an upgrade to the new Pixel Weather app when transitioning to Wear OS 6 or future versions. Users can still request weather updates via Gemini or Google Assistant on devices running Wear OS 3 and above.

The Wear OS platform has gained attention with advancements in devices like the Pixel Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. The Recorder app in Wear OS 5 allows seamless audio note-taking that syncs with the Pixel 9 and generates transcripts, making it useful for capturing notes. Google Keep Notes is used for creating weekly to-do lists, allowing tasks to be checked off from the wrist. Despite a growing fondness for Wear OS applications, there are concerns about the platform's overall capabilities due to the small display and limitations of voice-to-text technology. There is hope that advancements in AI, particularly with Gemini AI, will improve the functionality of these applications.
