WhatsApp is developing a feature to allow users to send messages to users of other messaging applications, responding to the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). Currently, this capability is limited to messaging BirdyChat and is only available to users within the European Union. WhatsApp for Android is experiencing a bug that prevents users from opening PDF files correctly. Instead of displaying options like Adobe Reader or Google Drive, users are presented with irrelevant choices such as wallet apps and Google Play services. This issue affects some users selectively, particularly when trying to access PDFs they have sent to themselves or others. Reports indicate that the problem is specific to WhatsApp's file handling, as accessing the same PDFs through the phone's file manager works without issues. Users have found temporary workarounds, such as sharing PDFs to external apps or using WhatsApp Web, although the latter has its own scrolling issues. WhatsApp has not yet acknowledged the bug, but users are encouraged to report it. A fix is expected soon, and some beta users have reported no issues with PDF access.

WhatsApp is adding a night mode feature to its Android app, aimed at improving photography in low-light conditions. This feature has been identified in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.25.22.2 and includes a moon icon in the camera interface for manual activation. The night mode enhances image clarity and brightness by adjusting exposure and minimizing noise, allowing users to capture more details in dim environments. It is currently available to select beta testers and is expected to roll out to a wider audience in future updates.

A bug in the beta version 2.24.24.5 of WhatsApp has caused a green screen glitch that affects users, rendering the app inoperable when accessing chats. This issue primarily impacts beta testers and results in a complete transformation of the display into a solid green hue. Reports of the glitch have been shared across online platforms, with some users experiencing additional related issues, such as the app force-closing upon startup. The bug is confined to the beta version, and stable release users are unaffected. A suggested workaround for those impacted is to revert to an earlier app version, although this process can be complicated. WhatsApp's development team is expected to be working on a patch to resolve the issue.

WhatsApp on desktop now supports pinning of messages, allowing users to highlight important messages in both group and personal conversations by pinning up to three messages for a set duration. Another new feature is the Windows Share integration, which enables users to share content directly from WhatsApp using Windows 11's Share UI. Performance improvements have been made, including addressing laggy animations on Intel-based PCs, but some users may still experience issues when running WhatsApp on battery power or without a GPU. Additional features include Meta AI integration, a responsive interface, and a built-in sticker maker. The updated WhatsApp app is available in the Microsoft Store.
