Google shares simple fix for millions of Windows 10 users

Google, in collaboration with refurbished electronics retailer Back Market, is offering a USB memory stick that allows users to install ChromeOS Flex for free, providing an alternative to Windows 10 and addressing the end of support for the operating system. The ChromeOS Flex USB Kit simplifies the installation process and aims to extend the lifespan of aging PCs, potentially preventing millions of functioning devices from being discarded. As of October 14, 2025, Microsoft ceased all support for Windows 10, leaving vulnerabilities unaddressed. Approximately one-third of Windows devices still run on Windows 10, and users can opt for an additional year of updates at a cost of around £22. ChromeOS Flex has lower system requirements than Windows 11 but lacks features like Android app installation. It helps ensure security updates for existing devices and contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing electronic waste and carbon emissions associated with new device manufacturing. The physical kit is priced at around €3 and is reusable.

Man admits to locking thousands of Windows devices in extortion plot

A former core infrastructure engineer, Daniel Rhyne, admitted to locking Windows administrators out of 254 servers during an extortion attempt against his employer in Somerset County, New Jersey. Rhyne accessed the company's network without authorization from November 9 to November 25, deleting network admin accounts and altering passwords for 13 domain admin accounts and 301 domain user accounts to "TheFr0zenCrew!". He also scheduled tasks to modify passwords for two local admin accounts affecting 3,284 workstations and planned to shut down random servers and workstations in December 2023. On November 25, he sent a ransom email demanding 20 bitcoin, claiming IT administrators were locked out and server backups erased. Forensic investigators found he used a concealed virtual machine to plan his actions. Rhyne was arrested on August 27 and faces charges related to hacking and extortion, with a potential maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

I Tested Crimson Desert on Every Recommended Graphics Card

Windows Hello gets passkey support for Entra accounts

Administrators need to enable the FIDO2 passkey method within Entra’s authentication policy to activate this feature. Microsoft aims to gradually eliminate passwords, providing stronger defenses against phishing and account compromise.

Microsoft to enable Windows hotpatch security updates by default

Microsoft will enable hotpatch security updates by default for eligible Windows devices managed through Microsoft Intune and the Microsoft Graph API starting with the May 2026 Windows security update. This change aims to enhance security and reduce the time to achieve 90% patch compliance by half. The updates will be managed through Windows Autopatch, which allows organizations to apply updates without manual intervention. Administrators can manage hotpatch updates at the tenant level and can opt-out starting April 1, 2026. A Hotpatch quality updates report will be available in Intune to ensure devices are ready for the updates. Windows Autopatch became generally available in July 2022 and is currently operational on over 10 million production devices.
