The Registry Inventory feature operates through Intune's Properties catalog, enabling administrators to monitor specific registry keys. Detailed reports are generated for each configured entry, providing information on registry key paths, value names, types, and data. The data collected is accessible from the Device inventory page, and the initial release supports common collection patterns for HKEYLOCALMACHINE (HKLM) registry paths. Registry Inventory is included with Microsoft Intune Plan 1. Other enhancements in the Intune update include management capabilities for Samsung firmware updates.

Microsoft's Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 has been integral to Windows 11's security since its launch in 2021. TPM is now standard in most CPUs, allowing Microsoft to enhance device activation security. The current Key Management Service (KMS) model has vulnerabilities that hackers exploit, prompting the need for stronger device identity and activation integrity assurances. TPM provides a hardware-level security mechanism for the activation process, where KMS hosts must present TPM credentials to validate their hardware identity and confirm they are uncompromised. Starting with upcoming Windows Server releases, KMS hosts will be required to prove they run on verified hardware before activating clients. By August 2026, Windows Server 2025 will help administrators prepare for these changes.

Microsoft has mandated the inclusion of the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) as a standard feature in all new motherboards and CPUs to enhance the Windows activation process. The company has introduced an enhancement to its Key Management Service (KMS) that leverages TPM's security capabilities to authenticate the legitimacy of KMS servers. This new "TPM-based attestation" aims to mitigate exploitation risks associated with KMS by validating the cryptographic integrity of KMS servers. Starting in August 2026, TPM-based attestation will be required for KMS activation with the next release of Windows Server. Microsoft has also closed off the "KMS38" activation method in 2025, while traditional KMS activation remains functional. The Massgrave collective has developed an Online KMS method that may be impacted by the new TPM-based attestation.

Windows 11 is testing a new feature that allows users to reassign the Copilot key to do nothing. The Copilot key has been present on newer Windows PCs since its introduction in 2024, and Microsoft considers a PC an AI PC only if it includes this key. Users can remap the Copilot key to preferred applications or restore it to its original function as the Right Ctrl key. An additional option, “Do nothing,” will make the Copilot key inactive. This feature is currently available in Windows Insider preview builds, with a public rollout expected soon. Microsoft acknowledged that the Copilot key has created challenges for users who rely on the Right Ctrl key or Context menu key, and it plans to allow customization of the Copilot key through Settings. Initially, only two remapping options were planned, but the “Do nothing” option was added in response to user feedback. Microsoft cautioned that remapping the Copilot key to the Right Ctrl key may cause inconsistencies with certain keyboard shortcuts.

TPM attestation will be mandatory for KMS Hardware-Secured activation with the upcoming Windows Server 2028 LTSC release. Organizations are advised to prepare for this transition.

Approximately 17% of all Windows client devices are still running Windows 10, equating to about one in six machines. Windows 11 accounts for 78% of Windows devices, with third-party trackers indicating it surpassed 70% of desktop share as of February 2026. Official support for Windows 10 ended in October 2025, but Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program will provide patches until October 2027 for eligible devices. A typical Windows 10 device has an average of 1,903 active security vulnerabilities, nearly three times the 652 CVE-tracked flaws found on a Windows 11 machine. 66% of Windows 10 vulnerabilities are classified as "high" or "critical." Small and medium enterprises have 21.4% of their Windows devices still on Windows 10, while larger enterprises have 16.6%. The healthcare and pharmaceuticals sectors have 23% of devices on Windows 10, followed by consumer and retail at 22%, and manufacturing at 18%. Lansweeper is urging organizations to enroll in the ESU program and address reasons for remaining on Windows 10 as 2026 approaches.
