Microsoft is facing a challenge with the Windows 11 25H2 October update (KB5066835), which disrupts mouse and keyboard functionality in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), making it inoperative. WinRE is a troubleshooting toolkit that activates during startup problems or system malfunctions. Microsoft confirmed that USB keyboard and mouse work normally within the Windows operating system and is working on a solution. This issue adds to other complications from recent Windows 11 updates, including localhost issues and disruptions to the Windows Media Creation Tool. Users are unable to initiate recovery processes due to the lack of functional input devices.

Users have reported that the localhost functionality in Windows 11 is non-operational following the October update KB5066835, which was intended to improve security and quality. This disruption affects web developers who rely on local servers for testing applications. The issue has been traced to build version 26100.6899 and is linked to the HTTP.sys component. A workaround involves uninstalling the October update and, if necessary, the previous September update. Additionally, Microsoft faced issues with the Windows Media Creation Tool just before the end-of-life announcement for Windows 10 and has started enforcing Online Accounts for Windows 11 installations.
