Microsoft has resolved restart loops and taskbar problems on Windows 11 systems following the installation of the June KB5039302 preview update. The issue primarily affected systems running Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 11 22H2, with users of Windows Home edition less likely to experience it. The problem has been fixed in updates released on July 9, 2024 (KB5040442) and later.

Microsoft confirmed a major issue with an optional Windows 11 update causing a reboot loop. The bug affects systems that might repeatedly restart and require recovery operations. There is no fix yet, but Microsoft is working on a resolution. The author's desktop PC with Windows 11 is also experiencing issues with restarting and shutting down properly. After uninstalling and reinstalling Windows, the issues disappeared temporarily until a recent update caused them to return. The author is now considering switching to Linux due to the ongoing problems with Windows updates.

Microsoft has begun tracking a new issue where the Taskbar fails to load under certain conditions for PCs utilizing Windows N edition or machines where Media Features have been turned off. KB5039302 is not being offered to Hyper-V virtual machines running on hosts with "certain" processor types due to a bootloop issue.
