Microsoft is now testing the Xbox Full Screen Experience across Windows 11 PCs

Full screen experience expands to more Windows 11 PC form factors for Windows Insiders

Windows Insider Preview Build 26220.7271 is now available for the Dev and Beta Channels, expanding the Xbox full screen experience to laptops, desktops, and tablets. This feature provides an immersive gaming environment designed for console-style navigation. Users can access it via the Task View icon or by pressing Win + Tab, and it can be toggled on and off with Win + F11. The Xbox home screen will display a variety of games, and switching between applications is facilitated by a long press on the Xbox button. The rollout of this feature is phased, and it requires the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store. Feedback can be submitted through the Feedback Hub under Gaming and Xbox > Gaming Full Screen Experience.

Asus ROG Xbox Ally X review – a great gaming handheld, but not because of Xbox

The Asus ROG Xbox Ally X features an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor and is priced at 9/£799. It has a 7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The device includes 24GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an 80Wh battery. It weighs 715g and has dimensions of 290 x 121 x 27.5 - 50.9mm. The controls follow an Xbox layout and include various I/O options. The device offers exceptional gaming performance, reliable battery life, and an ergonomic design but has a Windows interface that is not optimized for handheld use, a higher price point, and disappointing Xbox app features. Battery life ranges from under two hours in high power mode to four to six hours in less demanding scenarios.

Windows 11 will soon allow users to access Task View by long-pressing the Xbox button on their controllers, a feature currently in preview testing with Build 2622.6682. This enhancement aims to improve the gaming experience for users who prefer controllers over traditional input methods. Additionally, Windows 11 will enable users to log in using a gaming controller, enhancing security and streamlining the gaming experience. Xbox Is Changing How The ‘Guide’ Button Works On Windows 11 PCs

Users have reported that the Guide button on Xbox controllers connected to Windows 11 PCs now launches the Task View screen instead of turning off the controller. Microsoft has redefined the Xbox button's functionality: a short press opens the Game Bar, a long press activates the Task View, and pressing and holding the button still turns off the controller. The upcoming ROG Xbox Ally will also feature an Xbox button that opens a handheld-friendly task switcher with a long press.
