If you share my enthusiasm, you’re eagerly awaiting June 21st, when Elden Ring’s expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, is set to release. This is FromSoftware’s largest expansion to date, promising a plethora of new, horrifying enemies to battle, eerie lands to explore, and weapons to collect. Meanwhile, we can traverse the Lands Between in style, gathering all the runes, smithing stones, and talismans our hearts desire, on an entirely new mount.
Giant Capybara
The Delamain “Capybara Island” mod, available on Nexus Mods, transforms our beloved Torrent into a giant, fluffy capybara. Apparently, it also alters all goats, deer, and boars, making one wonder if our fearless mod author spent time animating capybaras frolicking around like maniacs. Why do goats in Elden Ring roll around like that? Someone, please write to the lore department; we have big questions here.
The mod also promises fun facts about capybaras on loading screens. Perhaps it will tell you that capybaras are the world’s largest rodents (they can grow up to 170 pounds!), or that their large front incisors never stop growing, requiring them to grind them down on food or tree bark. Maybe it will share insights about their relationships with yellow-headed caracaras, where these charming birds ride on their backs and eat ticks off them.
I have yet to ride a capybara from the fields of Limgrave to the frozen Mountaintops of the Giants, but the last line of the mod’s description, suggesting to “explore other things,” has piqued my interest. Perhaps Mohg’s trident will be replaced with a staff topped with a capybara head, or the Red Wolf of Radagon in the Raya Lucaria Library will instead be a giant rodent with a sword clutched in its powerful incisors.
If you’re looking for other Elden Ring mods to keep you entertained over the next month, check out Convergence or Elden Ring Reforged, both of which offer tons of rebalancing, updates, and new content. There’s also the excellent Seamless Co-op mod, allowing you to journey through the world of Elden Ring with a friend without being kicked out of the game every time you defeat a boss.
