Seamless File Management
With this new functionality, users can now see their Android device listed in the left sidebar of File Explorer, conveniently positioned above the “This PC” option. By clicking on the device name, users can navigate through their phone’s storage just as they would with a connected USB drive. This integration not only simplifies file management but also facilitates the effortless transfer of files between the PC and Android device.
Moreover, any files deleted from the Android device will be moved to a dedicated Recycle Bin folder on the phone, where they will remain for 30 days before permanent deletion. The Windows Search feature can also be utilized to locate specific files on the Android device, further enhancing the user experience.
Requirements for Integration
To take advantage of this new feature, users must ensure they meet several prerequisites:
- Both Windows 11 and 10 must be updated to the latest version.
- Users should open the Microsoft Store and navigate to the Downloads tab to update the Cross-Device Experience Host to its latest version.
- Android devices must be running Android 11 or newer, with the Link to Windows app updated to version 1.24071 or later.
- Users should verify that their phone is linked to their PC by checking Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile Devices (Windows 10 users can find Mobile devices directly on the Settings home page).
