Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.8142 (Dev Channel)

Hello, Windows Insiders. Today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.8142 (KB 5079492) to the Dev Channel. This update brings a variety of changes and improvements, which are categorized into two main areas: new features and notable fixes. These enhancements are gradually being rolled out to Insiders who have opted to receive the latest updates through the Settings menu under Windows Update.

Changes and Improvements Gradually Being Rolled Out with Toggle On*

[Administrator Protection]

  • Following the resumption of the rollout for Administrator Protection, IT administrators can now enable this feature in Settings under Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Account Protection. Simply toggle it on, and a restart will be required to apply the changes.

[Touchpad]

  • A new setting has been introduced in Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad, allowing users to adjust the size of the right-click zone. Options include default, small, medium, and large. This feature is available for touchpads with a pressable surface, and if customized through manufacturer apps, a “Custom” entry will appear in the dropdown to preserve those settings.

[Task Manager]

Several improvements have been made to Task Manager:

  • Task Manager now provides enhanced visibility into NPU usage for PCs equipped with an NPU. New optional NPU and NPU Engine columns are available on the Processes, Users, and Details pages. Additionally, the Details page introduces NPU Dedicated Memory and NPU Shared Memory columns, offering deeper insights into workload management. Neural engines associated with a GPU will also be displayed on the Performance page for a comprehensive view of AI-related system activity.
  • A new optional Isolation column has been added to the Processes and Details pages, enabling users to identify apps running in an AppContainer.

To add any of the new columns, right-click a column header in Task Manager and select them from the menu.

Feedback: Share your thoughts in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Desktop Environment > Task Manager.

[Accessibility]

  • An issue affecting the use of Braille for Insiders in previous builds has been addressed.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel

  • Features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as feedback is monitored.
  • The desktop watermark in the lower right corner of the desktop is a normal occurrence for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • For those eager to receive features as they are gradually rolled out, enable the toggle for the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update. If the toggle is off, new features will be rolled out over time once they are ready.
  • Some features in these builds may never be released as they are tested for feedback. Features may change, be removed, or replaced before final release.
  • Localization for features in active development may not be complete; please report any localization issues via Feedback Hub.
