Couldn’t install Windows 11 24H2 because of your wallpaper? Microsoft has finally lifted blocks on upgrades due to customization apps

In a recent development, Microsoft has addressed a significant compatibility issue that affected users of certain wallpaper customization applications on Windows 11. These applications, designed to enhance the visual appeal of desktops, encountered various problems when users attempted to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system, known as 24H2.

The incompatibilities led to a range of frustrating experiences, including errors, glitches with wallpaper displays, disappearing desktop icons, and complications with virtual desktops. Such issues were particularly notable during the testing phase of 24H2, where some popular customization tools faced restrictions, much to the dismay of Windows Insiders eager to explore the new features.

Fortunately, Microsoft has now resolved the majority of these issues, allowing users with the affected wallpaper apps to proceed with the installation of the 24H2 update. This resolution was highlighted in a recent Windows 11 release health status update, signaling a return to normalcy for those impacted by the earlier hiccups.

The underlying architecture of 24H2, built on a new platform dubbed Germanium, has introduced a wave of challenges, resulting in more bugs than previous updates. While such a substantial shift might typically be expected to cause some disruption, the extent of the issues experienced has been notably pronounced, resembling a minor avalanche of complications for users navigating the upgrade.
