Windows 10 users who meet the necessary criteria will soon be greeted with a notification within the Settings app, specifically under Windows Update. For those not currently using a Microsoft account, signing in will be a prerequisite for enrollment. This step can be temporary; once a PC is enrolled, users can log out of their Microsoft account while still retaining access to the ESUs. However, a Microsoft account will be necessary for enrolling new PCs or reinstalling Windows 10.

Enrollment Options for ESU Licenses
There are three avenues to secure an ESU license:
- Make a one-time payment of .
- Redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points.
- Utilize the Windows Backup app to back up settings.
Among these options, the Windows Backup app stands out for its simplicity. It allows users to back up saved credentials, various Windows settings, and select Windows applications to their account. Additionally, users can back up specified folders, provided there is sufficient storage space—though the complimentary 5GB may not accommodate extensive data.
For those who have previously used the Windows Backup app, this option will be readily available. Alternatively, new users will have the choice of redeeming Microsoft Rewards points or opting for the one-time fee.
Once the enrollment process is complete, a confirmation message will appear in the Windows Update app, affirming that the PC is now part of the ESU program. This enrollment ensures that users will receive security updates for Windows until October 2026. Furthermore, Microsoft has pledged to continue providing updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus and supported Microsoft Office versions through at least 2028.
