How to update an unsupported PC to Windows 11 version 24H2?

While some previous methods for bypassing hardware restrictions have become obsolete, there remain viable options for updating an unsupported PC to Windows 11 version 24H2 without relying on third-party software.

The first method closely resembles earlier techniques but utilizes a different command:

  1. Visit the official Windows 11 website and download the Windows 11 24H2 ISO.
  2. Mount the ISO image and navigate to the Sources folder.
  3. Hold the Shift key, right-click in a blank area, and select “Open PowerShell window here.”
  4. In the PowerShell window, type cmd and press Enter.
  5. Enter setupprep.exe /product server and hit Enter.
  6. Proceed by following the on-screen instructions in the subsequent window. Although the setup screen may indicate “Windows Server,” rest assured you are installing a standard edition that aligns with your current SKU.

For those who are comfortable with a more intricate approach, editing the system registry offers another option:

  1. Press Win + R and type regedit to open the Windows Registry Editor.
  2. Paste the following path into the address bar: HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionAppCompatFlags.
  3. Click Edit > New > Key and rename it to HwReqChk.
  4. Next, click Edit > New > Multi-string Value.
  5. Rename this new value to HwReqChkVars.
  6. Double-click the value and input the following:
    SQSecureBootCapable=TRUE
    SQ
    SecureBootEnabled=TRUE
    SQTpmVersion=2
    SQ
    RamMB=8192

    Disregard any error messages regarding empty strings.
  7. Save your changes.
  8. Download the Windows 11 version 24H2 ISO from the official website and mount the image.
  9. Run setup.exe and follow the prompts.

It’s important to note that some older methods, such as merging a registry file, are no longer effective.

  1. Download the Windows 11 version 24H2 image from the official website.
  2. Acquire Rufus from its official site; this free, open-source application is designed for creating bootable media.
  3. Connect your USB drive and launch Rufus.
  4. Select your USB drive from the Device dropdown menu.
  5. Choose “Disk or ISO image” and click Select.
  6. Locate the Windows 11 24H2 image and keep the remaining settings unchanged.
  7. Click Start.
  8. Ensure to check the option “Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot, and TPM 2.0.” This step is crucial, as without it, installation on your computer will not proceed.
  9. Wait for Rufus to complete the process.

After the process is finished, restart your computer and boot from the USB drive. The setup application will facilitate the installation of Windows 11 on unsupported machines, even those equipped with older processors or lacking TPM/Secure Boot capabilities.
