KB5039448: Microsoft released 1st Windows 11 24H2 (2024 update) setup upgrade

Windows 11 Version 24H2 Released Unexpectedly

Following the recent Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 10 and 11, Microsoft surprised many by releasing Windows 11 version 24H2 earlier than expected. The update, labeled KB5039239, was not supposed to be out until later in the year.

It seems that Microsoft decided to push the update out earlier as Copilot+ PCs are starting to arrive. However, the company clarified that x86 systems are also technically compatible with the update.

In addition to the main update, Microsoft also released SafeOS dynamic updates for Windows 11 24H2. These updates aim to enhance the Windows recovery environment (WinRE) and the setup files. The WinRE update, released under KB5041137, focuses on improving the recovery environment.

Another dynamic update, KB5039448, targets the Windows 11 setup binaries. This update makes improvements to the files that the setup uses for feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2.

In a Techcommunity blog post, Microsoft explained the concept of Dynamic Updates in more detail. These updates include fixes to Setup.exe binaries, SafeOS updates for Windows Recovery Environment, servicing stack updates, the latest cumulative update, and driver updates.

Dynamic Updates are not automatically pushed through Windows Update but can be manually downloaded from the Windows Update Catalog website. The update is available for both Arm64 and AMD64 devices.
