Microsoft commits to improving Windows 11 performance, with a catch

Windows 11 has been facing criticism for its resource consumption and perceived sluggishness compared to its predecessor, Windows 10. This performance gap is a significant factor keeping many users from making the leap to the latest operating system. In response, Microsoft has taken to its Windows Insider blog to announce a commitment to enhancing the performance of Windows 11.

Enhancing Performance Through User Feedback

To facilitate these improvements, Microsoft is encouraging users to share their performance logs through the Feedback Hub, a complimentary application accessible via the Microsoft Store. By launching the app, users can authorize Microsoft to collect performance data and submit feedback specifically under the “System Sluggishness” category.

Microsoft elaborated on this initiative, stating:

As part of our commitment to improving Windows performance, logs are now collected when your PC has experienced any slow or sluggish performance. Windows Insiders are encouraged to provide feedback when experiencing PC issues related to slow or sluggish performance, allowing Feedback Hub to automatically collect these logs, which will help us root cause issues faster.

To ensure that the logs are captured effectively, users should select the Desktop > System Sluggishness category when submitting feedback. The logs are stored locally in the %systemRoot%TempDiagOutputDirWhesvc folder and are transmitted to Microsoft only upon feedback submission.

This approach is not uncommon in the tech industry, where companies often request user data to refine their applications and enhance user experience. After all, identifying and addressing issues is a crucial step in the development process. However, it is understandable that some users may feel hesitant about sharing their data with large corporations.
