Microsoft Resolves Bug for Copilot on Windows 10 Multi-Monitor Systems

In October 2023, Microsoft faced an unusual bug affecting desktop icons on multi-monitor systems when using Copilot. As a result, affected Windows 10 users were blocked from updating to Windows 11 or accessing Copilot. However, Microsoft has now fixed the bug, allowing users with multi-monitor setups to enjoy Copilot on their PCs or upgrade to Windows 11.

The bug fix comes in the form of a new Copilot experience included in the latest non-security update for Windows 10, known as KB5039299. This update is being gradually rolled out, so some users may receive the new Copilot experience later than others.

According to Microsoft:

We are gradually rolling out a new Copilot experience for devices with Windows updates released June 25, 2024 or later. This new experience will resolve this issue for Windows 10, version 22H2. This update was released on June 25, 2024, and you can expect to receive the new Copilot experience between now and the coming months.

The updated Copilot experience allows users to pin Copilot to the taskbar like a regular app and use it in a standard app window:

We are advancing the Copilot experience on Windows. The Copilot app is now pinned to the taskbar and behaves like an app. This gives you the benefits of a typical app experience. For existing Windows 10 PCs, the timing of availability and delivery method will vary. This might not be available to all users because it will roll out gradually.

While the bug affecting multi-monitor systems has been resolved, there are still ongoing issues with Windows 10, such as the inability to change local profile images in the Settings app and problems with the Microsoft Connected Cache.

Regarding Windows 11, Microsoft recently addressed taskbar issues in the June 2024 non-security updates, which are now available for download following a temporary pause due to significant bugs on systems with virtualization software.
