In a significant development for Windows users, Steve DiAcetis, Principal Program Manager Lead at Microsoft, has shared promising insights regarding the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update. According to DiAcetis, this latest version is set to transform the often-dreaded experience of installing updates by significantly reducing installation times, restart durations, and CPU usage.
Performance Enhancements
Through a series of rigorous tests, it has been demonstrated that Windows 11 24H2 can deliver a remarkable 45.6% faster installation time compared to its predecessor, Windows 11 22H2. Additionally, the restart time following an update has been reduced by 39.7%, while CPU usage has seen a decrease of 15.3%.
To further validate these improvements, tests were conducted on a PC that had not received updates for 18 months. The results were equally impressive, showcasing a 43.6% increase in update installation speed, a 33.5% faster restart time, and a 25% reduction in CPU usage.
Streamlined Updates
DiAcetis also highlighted that the servicing stack for Windows 11 22H2 is comparable to that of 23H2, suggesting that the enhancements seen in 24H2 will likely extend to these earlier versions as well. Furthermore, the size of feature updates has been optimized, now being approximately 200 MB smaller. This reduction has been achieved by integrating system applications, such as Settings and File Explorer, into the monthly updates, while other applications like Mail, Calendar, and Notepad will require updates through the Microsoft Store.
