Microsoft has recently updated its list of deprecated features in Windows 11, signaling a shift in the operating system’s landscape. Among the latest entries is the “suggested actions” menu, a feature that was designed to enhance user experience by providing quick access to actions when copying phone numbers or dates.
Changes to Suggested Actions
The suggested actions menu, which made its debut in the Windows 11 2022 Update, was intended to streamline tasks by offering contextual options. For instance, copying a phone number would prompt the menu to display applications capable of making calls, while copying a date would suggest apps for setting reminders or creating events.
However, Microsoft has decided to phase out this feature, likely due to its underutilization. The company is also introducing a new feature called Click To Do, which offers similar capabilities but is powered by AI. This new functionality, however, will only be available on Copilot+ PCs, leaving older models without these advanced options once the suggested actions menu is removed.
In 2023, Microsoft undertook a significant overhaul of Windows 11, eliminating no fewer than 16 features, marking the most extensive removal of functionalities in a single year. In contrast, the pace of feature removals has slowed in 2024, with only a handful of features being retired thus far.
This ongoing evolution reflects Microsoft’s commitment to refining its operating system by removing outdated features and focusing on more relevant, innovative solutions for users.
