Microsoft is currently exploring enhancements to its Windows Server operating system, as reported by Windows Latest. The tech giant is in the process of testing a revamped “Advanced Settings” page, which aims to streamline user experience for enterprise server management.
Revamping User Accessibility
The new Advanced Settings page is set to replace the previous “For Developers” page, which, despite its name, contained various settings that could benefit a broader audience beyond just developers. For instance, the “End Task” option available in the taskbar was a feature that many everyday users found useful. This shift towards a more inclusive interface suggests Microsoft’s intention to make these valuable tweaks more accessible to all users, not just those with a technical background.
In addition to the user-friendly redesign, the Advanced Settings page introduces exciting new features. Among them is a “long path” setting that lifts the 260-character limitation on file paths. This enhancement allows users to bypass the frustrating “Path too long” error message, particularly when transferring folders across different partitions. Furthermore, it is anticipated that several features from the now-retired Dev Home will also find their way into the Advanced Settings page in the near future.
As of now, this innovative Advanced Settings page is being tested exclusively on Windows Server. However, there is a strong likelihood that these changes will eventually extend to Windows 11, potentially within this calendar year.
