Windows 11’s Upcoming Battery Indicator Revamp Paused
In an exciting development for Windows 11 users, Microsoft has been diligently working on a redesigned battery indicator, aimed at enhancing user experience with a series of thoughtful updates. After weeks of testing, the new indicator made its debut in the latest Release Preview update, signaling that a broader rollout was on the horizon. However, in a surprising turn of events, Microsoft has decided to pause the rollout to address some unforeseen issues.
As noted in a recent blog update, Microsoft stated:
[UPDATE 2/25] We have stopped the roll out of this change to address some issues. We plan to begin rolling it out in a future update soon.
The redesigned battery indicator promises to tackle several shortcomings of the current version. One of the most notable enhancements is its increased size, which aims to improve readability for users. Additionally, the introduction of a color-coded system will allow for quicker assessments of battery status: green indicates charging, yellow signifies energy-saving mode, and red warns that the battery is running low.
Another significant upgrade is the ability to display the battery percentage directly next to the indicator. This feature eliminates the need for users to hover over the battery icon to check the precise charge level. For those who prefer a more streamlined aesthetic, there will still be an option to disable the battery percentage through Settings > Power & Battery > Battery Percentage.
While the timeline for resuming the rollout remains unclear, users can explore some of the anticipated features through third-party applications. One such option is the recently updated Battery Flyout, which now includes comprehensive battery reports detailing the health of your laptop’s battery.
