Microsoft Releases July 2024 Patch Tuesday Updates
Microsoft recently rolled out the latest Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11, addressing various issues and vulnerabilities. The updates include KB5040427, KB5040430, KB5040434, and KB5040448 for Windows 10, KB5040442 and KB5040431 for Windows 11 versions 21H2, 22H2, and 23H2, and KB5040435 for Windows 11 version 24H2. Notably, the update for Windows 11 includes a fix for a broken Taskbar.
In addition to these updates, Microsoft quietly addressed a major issue affecting Windows 10 and 11 users. The company released Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates KB5034441 for Windows 10 and KB5034440 for Windows 11 to fix a Secure Boot bypass vulnerability known as CVE-2024-20666. These updates are separate from the WinRE update (KB5041137) released earlier this week for Windows 11 version 24H2.
Users may encounter an “0x80070643 – ERRORINSTALLFAILURE” error message when attempting to install the WinRE update. Microsoft has released several updates to address this issue, including a modified PowerShell script in March. The company also clarified that users without a WinRE partition do not require the update.
Microsoft recently updated the WinRE update again and provided a detailed guide to help users determine if they need to install it. The company emphasized that the update is not necessary under certain conditions, such as insufficient free space on the WinRE recovery partition or if the WinRE image is already up to date.

- If the WinRE image has a version equal to or greater than 10.0.22000.2710.
- If your PC does not have a WinRE recovery partition.
