This week, Microsoft has unveiled a series of dynamic updates specifically for Windows 11, leaving Windows 10 users without new enhancements this time around.
Dynamic Updates Explained
Dynamic updates are designed to enhance the Windows Recovery experience, particularly through updates to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), often referred to as Safe OS updates. Additionally, these updates improve the Setup binaries, known as Setup updates.
The purpose of these Dynamic Update packages is to be integrated into existing Windows images before they are deployed. They encompass crucial fixes for Setup.exe binaries, SafeOS updates for the Windows Recovery Environment, and other enhancements. Notably, Dynamic Updates ensure the preservation of Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content throughout the upgrade process. For instance, VBScript is currently categorized as an FOD in Windows 11 version 24H2.
Both the setup and recovery updates have been rolled out, but they are exclusive to version 24H2; previous versions will not benefit from these enhancements. Furthermore, these updates extend their reach to Windows Server 2025. Below are the details of the changelogs for the updates:
KB5062839: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows Server 2025: July 22, 2025
