Microsoft’s latest Windows update is causing issues for some gamers

The recent rollout of Microsoft Windows 11 version 24H2 has introduced a variety of new features, including several AI enhancements, most notably the Recall feature. However, the launch has encountered some challenges, particularly for the gaming community.

Easy Anti-Cheat Incompatibility

One of the most significant issues affecting gamers is the incompatibility between Windows 11 version 24H2 and Easy Anti-Cheat, a software developed by Epic Games designed to prevent cheating in online multiplayer games. This service is not only utilized in Epic’s own titles, such as the immensely popular Fortnite, but is also licensed by numerous other developers.

According to Microsoft, the majority of devices experiencing these issues are those utilizing Easy Anti-Cheat drivers released prior to April 2024. The problem appears to be particularly pronounced on devices powered by Intel’s Alder Lake+ processors and the vPro platform. Users may encounter a blue screen error labeled “MEMORY_MANAGEMENT” when attempting to open or play certain games, leading to system unresponsiveness.

In response to these complications, Microsoft has implemented a temporary measure to prevent devices with the affected drivers from upgrading to version 24H2. Users attempting to manually update will receive a notification regarding the issue. Microsoft strongly advises those potentially impacted to refrain from upgrading until a resolution is in place.

Asphalt 8 Issues

In addition to the broader compatibility issues with Easy Anti-Cheat, players of Asphalt 8 (Airborne) are also experiencing specific problems following the installation of Windows 11 version 24H2. Microsoft has acknowledged that users may encounter unresponsiveness or exceptions while using or exiting the game, necessitating a restart to regain functionality.

To mitigate these issues, Microsoft has placed a compatibility hold on PCs with Asphalt 8 installed, preventing these devices from updating to the new Windows version. This proactive approach aims to safeguard the gaming experience for users until the underlying problems are resolved.
