The Windows 11 Release Preview channel update finally makes the battery indicator useful

In a recent update to the Windows 11 Release Preview build, Microsoft has introduced an enhanced battery indicator that promises to make monitoring power levels more intuitive and user-friendly. This new feature, which is part of version 26100.3321, allows users to quickly assess their battery status through a color-coded system.

Enhanced Battery Indicator

The revamped battery icons provide a clear visual representation of your device’s power state. A green icon indicates that the PC is charging and functioning optimally. When the icon turns yellow, it signals that the device is in energy-saving mode, automatically activated when battery levels drop to 20% or less. A red icon serves as a critical alert, indicating that the battery is low and requires immediate attention.

Additionally, users can now opt to display the battery percentage alongside the icon in the system tray. This feature can be easily enabled by navigating to Settings > Power & battery and toggling on the “Battery Percentage” option.

However, it’s important to note that this battery update is being rolled out gradually. As a result, not all users will see the new feature immediately. Patience may be required as Microsoft continues to implement these updates across various devices. Alongside the battery enhancements, this rollout includes other features such as file sharing via the taskbar and improvements to Windows Spotlight, which enhances the visibility of image sources.
