Windows Search Service Overview
Shlomi Boutnaru, Ph.D., recently shared insights on the “Windows Search” operating system service. This service, as depicted in the screenshot provided, is primarily responsible for content indexing, property caching, and search results for various types of content, including files and emails.
The service, known as “WSearch,” runs through the executable located at “%windir%system32SearchIndexer.exe” with the command line argument “/Embedding.” By default, this service initiates automatically upon system boot-up and operates under the permissions of the “Local System” user.
Furthermore, the “Windows Search” service relies on the “Background Task Infrastructure Service” and “Remote Procedure Call” service. Additionally, services like “Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service” and “Work Folders” are dependent on the smooth functioning of the “Windows Search” service.
